A cutting head is an optical system consisting of:
Components:
1. QBH connector into which the laser source optical fiber is inserted
2. Block with upper protective glass protecting the collimator lens pair
3. Collimator lens module consisting of biconvex and meniscus lenses
4. Focus lens module consisting of biconvex and meniscus lenses. The meniscus lens has its own focal length, which affects the ability to cut thick metal
5. Central protective glass module (may be absent in some heads), it protects the focus lens
6. Lower protective glass module, which protects the entire system from combustion products, moisture, and other contaminants
❗ Important:
• Focus and collimator lenses can be swapped
• Central protective glass is often not specified in commercial offers or documentation
Types of cutting heads:
• With automatic focusing module
• Without module (operator adjusts focus point manually)
Popular manufacturers:
1. Raytools
2. WSX
3. Bodor (proprietary production only for their machines)
4. OSPRI
